Bespoke, But Not Wasteful
In our workshop, custom‑made doesn’t just mean tailored design - it also means responsible craftsmanship.
Pippa’s partner, Spooney, is the craftsman behind House of Furn’s custom built bars and bespoke furniture - interpreting Pippa’s scribbled sketches and endless ideas and transforming them into works of art!
We are increasingly conscious of the growing levels of waste within the luxury events industry. This is not a critique of particular companies or the industry as a whole; it is a pervasive problem that is very hard to resolve when delivering large-scale, aesthetically-led events.
While we offer bespoke pieces, we aim to reduce wastefulness when creating them.
Each piece we build in-house is designed and produced thoughtfully, with offcuts being repurposed for smaller projects – such as our brand new Parasol Poseur tables.
We choose durable materials that mean our custom pieces have a much longer shelf life than ‘off-the-shelf’ products, even when they are being sent out to multiple events each week. Our ‘Babs’ bar has been in use for 6 years, and she is still going strong.
We repair all our pieces in house when they are returned with damages. Chairs are upholstered, bars repainted and repaired, and only when a piece is truly at the end of its rentable life will it be retired (typically to a House of Furn team member where it will continue to be used).
Pieces that are designed specifically for one client or event are either rebuilt into something else or launched into our regular rotation (with permission from the original client). We never destroy items, even if they were only created for one event.
By combining traditional craftsmanship with an approach to sustainable practices that is small-business accessible, we are hoping to establish a precedent that bespoke design and mindful making can go hand in hand.
